Terms and conditions
These terms explain how our services work, what we agree to do, and what we ask of you.
Draft notice: these terms must be reviewed by a qualified legal professional before you rely on them or publish them.
1. About these terms
These terms apply to every order placed with Pearl Editing, based in London, United Kingdom. By sending a document or accepting a quotation, you agree to them.
2. Our services
We provide academic English editing, translation into English, article and book formatting, cover page design and the extra services listed on our pricing page. We edit the language, clarity, structure and presentation of your work. We do not check your research data or your scientific conclusions.
3. Quotations and payment
We send a written quotation based on the word count, service and deadline you give us. The quotation includes the agreed price and timetable. Our work starts after you approve the quotation and we receive payment. Prices are in US dollars unless the quotation says otherwise.
4. Deadlines
We agree a deadline with you before we start. If a document is sent late, changed substantially after the quotation, or is much longer than the word count you gave, the deadline may change. We will tell you as soon as we know.
5. Your responsibilities
- You must have the right to submit the material and to have it edited.
- You must not send unlawful, defamatory or infringing material.
- You are responsible for following your university’s, supervisor’s or journal’s rules on editing and AI or third-party assistance. Check these before you order.
- You must give accurate details, including word count, field and style guide.
6. Confidentiality
We treat your documents and details as confidential. Our editors work on your file only for your order. We do not share your material with third parties, except our service providers who help us deliver the service and are bound by similar duties, or where the law requires it.
7. Intellectual property
You keep the copyright and all rights in your work. We claim no rights over it. Our own templates, guides and website content remain ours.
8. What we do not guarantee
We do not guarantee that a journal, university, examiner, publisher or grader will accept your work, award a particular mark, or agree with any change. Acceptance decisions are made by others.
9. Cancellations and refunds
We confirm the cancellation and refund rules in your quotation before you pay. Please read them before you approve an order.
10. Limitation of liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Otherwise, to the extent the law allows, our total liability for an order is limited to the fee you paid for that order.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The version that applies to your order is the one shown at the time you approve our quotation.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, unless the law of your country requires otherwise.
